Emma Carter has led St. George School since 2019. Before that she served as dean of the College of Architecture and Design, where she introduced a shared first-year studio that every college now runs.
Her own research looks at how public buildings shape the institutions inside them: schools, libraries and town halls built between 1950 and 1980, and what happened to them once the money ran out.
As president, she has kept the school intentionally small. Studios stay at twenty students, and each new program must be based in an existing college.
